MDPerm is actively recruiting Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurses to support care delivery inside a Military Treatment Facility at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. This is a high-impact clinical role serving pediatric patients in a specialized critical care environment supporting military families.
Clinical Environment
The PICU is a small, highly specialized unit designed for focused critical pediatric care:
• 3-bed core unit expandable up to 9 beds
• Pediatric patients ranging from infancy through adolescence
• Neonatal cases managed by NICU with coordinated patient handoff
• Dedicated PICU staffing — nurses are not floated outside the unit
• Child Life Specialist available to support families and patients
This setting allows for low patient census with high-quality, individualized care.
Education
• Associate degree in Nursing or higher
• Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE-accredited nursing program
Experience
• Minimum 1 year full-time RN experience in a pediatric critical care setting
• Acceptable backgrounds include PICU, NICU, Pediatric CVICU, or comparable high-acuity pediatric units
• Active, unrestricted RN license (any U.S. state)
• U.S. Citizenship required
• N95 duckbill respirator fit testing clearance
Rotating schedule:
• 50% Day Shift
• 50% Night Shift
• One on-call shift per pay period
• Orientation includes approximately 10–12 weeks of structured training on 8-hour shifts.
