Naval Medical Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Patuxent River is seeking a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to provide comprehensive outpatient behavioral health services within a Military Treatment Facility (MTF).
This role involves independent clinical practice, including psychosocial assessment, treatment planning, psychotherapy, brief behavioral interventions, and care coordination for service members, beneficiaries, and their families. The LCSW works collaboratively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams in both specialty behavioral health and Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH/BHOP) settings to support patient functioning, treatment compliance, and continuity of care.

Primary Site of Service: NMRTC Patuxent River
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Clinic Hours: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
No weekends
No on-call requirement
Clinical Care & Interventions
Provide counseling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups within scope of licensure, including service-related marital and family issues
Deliver brief cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused interventions, typically no more than four (4) appointments per patient
Services mirror the pace of primary care, with 15–30 minute patient encounters
Independently assess psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and family members
Conduct comprehensive psychosocial and psychological assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
Utilize medical and mental health diagnoses, treatment procedures, and clinical terminology in patient care
Address acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses or injuries, including familiarity with common psychotropic and medical medications and side effects
Primary Care Behavioral Health / BHOP Duties
Effectively manage a full daily patient load in accordance with Mental Health Business Practice Standards and the BHOP Manual, typically 8–14 patient encounters per day
Serve as a Care Facilitator (CF) within the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model, as applicable
IBHCs assigned to MTFs with 3,000–7,500 adult enrollees in the Family Health Clinic will provide both IBHC and CF services per BHOP guidance
Contact referred patients to assess medication treatment adherence for depression, anxiety, and PTSD
Use validated brief symptom inventories to assess current symptom severity and treatment response
Assess barriers to treatment adherence and assist patients in problem-solving solutions
Provide patient education regarding behavioral health conditions, treatment plans, and self-management strategies
Consultation & Collaboration
Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment teams to support patient care and treatment compliance
Provide consultation to medical providers regarding psychosocial factors affecting health outcomes
Consult with medical personnel, legal authorities, and military commanders as required and appropriate
Participate in required documentation, care coordination, and quality assurance activities
Military-Specific Support & Training
Participate in military-required training, including but not limited to:
Suicide Risk Assessment, Management, and Treatment
Pre- and post-deployment screening
PTSD and combat stress
Military culture and operational stressors
Minimum one (1) year of experience within the past four (4) years in the evaluation and treatment of patients experiencing:
Chronic pain
Psychological factors affecting physical conditions
Difficulty coping with medical problems
Education
Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW)
Graduate of a School of Social Work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
Licensure
Current, full, active, and unrestricted Independent Clinical Social Worker license (LCSW, LISW, or LICSW) in any U.S. state or territory

Willingness to comply with military training, clinical practice standards, and quality assurance requirements
This position offers the opportunity to practice independently in a structured military healthcare environment, work within an integrated Primary Care Behavioral Health model, and support patients managing complex medical, psychological, and service-related stressors—without weekends or on-call responsibilities.
